Sysco Expands Through Merger

ere said it has agreed to merge with Jordan's Meats, Portland, Maine, one of New England's leading independent broadline food-service distributors.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, though Jordan's Foodservice Division generated more than $130 million in revenues last year, according to published reports.

The company supplies more than 2,500 customers with center-of-the-plate entree items, dairy products and nonfood goods from two facilities in Portland, and Burlington, Vt.

Under terms of the agreement, Jordan's Foodservice Division will become a subsidiary of Sysco, known as Sysco Food Services of Maine. Sysco, which currently works out of a distribution center in Bangor, Maine, will consolidate its Maine operations in Jordan's Portland facility, while maintaining a satellite office in the Bangor area. According to Sysco officials, it is anticipated that after completion of the merger, Jordan's 100,000-plus square-foot facility in Portland will be expanded to more than twice its existing capacity.

Great American Introduces Line

ST. LOUIS -- Great American Barbecue Co. has introduced a line of fully cooked, refrigerated entrees as part of its new supermarket fresh-meals program.

Varieties include Barbecue Pulled Pork, Barbecue Beef Brisket, Barbecue Pork Riblets, and two other items, Roast Beef with Gravy and Smoked Turkey with Gravy, according to the company.

Each 12-ounce entree for two is encased in modified-atmosphere packaging, which extends the shelf life of the product to 40 days.

Gold'n Plump Adds Six Fillets

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Gold'n Plump Poultry here has extended its line of ready-to-cook poultry products with Marinades Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast Fillets. The line features four year-round varieties: Lemon With Cracked Pepper, Cajun Style, Garlic Herb and Mediterranean; and two seasonal flavors, Raspberry Lime and Country Roast.

Each package of two 5-ounce fillets cooks in less than 15 minutes and includes on-pack sleeves providing serving suggestions and cooking instructions for oven, grill, stovetop and microwave.

Gold'n Plump also manufactures the Premium Selects line of individually packaged fresh boneless skinless breast fillets, and Freshly Frozen Chicken, a line of individually quick-frozen chicken.
