Unlike traditional aerosol, solid and powdered air fresheners and deodorizers that simply mask odors with perfumes, Febreze is a pump-spray deodorizer which uses a patented process to absorb odor molecules as it dries on fabric, eliminating the odor in the process. It also affords retailers the chance to merchandise fabric care items in other areas of the store, such as the baby care or pet aisles.

After running a two-year test in Phoenix, Tucson, Salt Lake City and Boise, where over a half-million consumers tried the product, P&G has rolled Febreze out nationally to some 85,000 stores. .

Febreze is available in regular strength for clothing and extra strength for upholstery, carpets, cars and boats. A 3.4-ounce portable size retails for about $1.50, while the 17-ounce bottle retails for around $3, and the 1-liter bottle sells for around $5.

Chicken of the Sea Offers CD-ROM

SAN DIEGO -- Chicken of the Sea International here is offering a free Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia CD-ROM with the purchase of any four cans or a sleeve-pack of its chunk light or solid white tuna.

The "Chicken of the Sea-D ROM" offer is being merchandised in-store via displays that hold 60 of the CD-ROMs, along with a case card that communicates the offer to the consumer. When the first 60 CD-ROMs are gone, consumers will be offered a mail-in opportunity. In addition, a tear-off card on the display will feature tuna recipe ideas to take home.

The promotion is scheduled to run until Aug. 15.

Organic Coffee Line Launched

WATERBURY, Vt. -- Green Mountain Coffee here is marketing a line of organic coffees that are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. The coffees are grown in heavily shaded mountains of Peru, Sumatra, Mexico and Central America by farmers who use traditional and sustainable farming techniques, such as composting, weed control, terracing and natural fertilization.

The new line consists of Organic Sumatran Reserve, Organic Viennese Cinnamon, Organic House Blend, Organic Mexican Select and Organic Peruvian Select.
