Sensormatic Adds Inventory Tracking

Electronics Corp., the manufacturer of electronic article-surveillance products, based here, announced the testing of a next-generation product that adds article tracking to security features.

"Our first test system, being installed in a Movie Gallery store, should be operating by July 15," said Sensormatic senior marketing manager Bob Clucas. "We expect to have it on the market early next year.

"The system provides several benefits for retailers," said Clucas. "The tag gives each tape a unique identifier that can be tracked all the way through the supply chain. Via antennas mounted near drop-boxes, tapes are checked in automatically when they're returned. Receipts are generated, which will be helpful in collecting late fees."

Additionally, with handheld readers, store inventory is made easier and achieves accuracy rates of 100%, according to Clucas.
