A North Carolina federal judge has rejected an attempt by Food Lion, Salisbury, N.C., to subpoena records from third parties to investigate news-gathering methods by ABC News, a Food Lion spokeswoman said. Food Lion sued ABC in 1992 in connection with a PrimeTime Live news segment that used hidden-camera footage to allege that the chain handled meat and fish in an unsanitary manner. Penn Traffic, Syracuse, N.Y., and members of U.S. Steelworkers Local 12755 ratified a new five-year contract last week, ending a strike since Aug. 1. The pact covers 207 plant employees and drivers at the company's dairy processing division, Sani-Dairy. The dairy is slated to be back in full operation today.
Whole Foods Market, Austin, Texas, last week said it completed its acquisition of Fresh Fields, Rockville, Md. The company expects total comparable-store sales for the fourth quarter to increase 4% to 4.5%.
