NEW SYSTEM WILL REPORT ADVERSE REACTIONS

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Nutrition office here announced a new electronic system due in May 2003 that will streamline existing methods of reporting adverse events from consumers of food, cosmetics and dietary supplements. Starting Sept. 16, the agency also will, for the first time, notify manufacturers of adverse events, said Ken Falci, director of the office of scientific analysis and support for CFSAN.
