APPLEGATE FARMS MAKES SANDWICHES
e Farms here recently introduced a line of handheld stuffed sandwiches, frozen pastry pockets with natural fillings. The three flavors are Pepperoni Pizza; Egg, Ham & Cheese; and Ham, Spinach & Cheese, available in 4.5-ounce boxes at a suggested retail of $2.99. They are made from certified organic wheat flour, and the meats are free of antibiotics and nitrites, the company said. They contain no hydrogenated oils and are already carried by Whole Foods Markets and its Bread & Circus and Fresh Fields divisions, according to Steven McDonnell, president of Applegate Farms.
BISTRO GARDEN DEBUTS SOUPS AT EXPO WEST
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- The Bistro Garden here introduced its line of six frozen soups at the Natural Products Expo West, held March 6 to 9 in Anaheim, Calif. The soups are the same as those served in the Bistro Garden restaurant in Studio City, Calif., following in the steps of Bistro Garden Souffles, which were launched as a frozen dessert three years ago. The soups are all-natural, come in individual 12-ounce microwavable bowls and cook in 8 minutes. Flavors are Carrot Ginger, Lentil, Potato Leek, Tomato Basil, Tortilla and Vegetable Barley. Suggested retail price is $3.95 to $5, depending on the variety. Carolyn Pappas, who owns the company, and her husband, Greg Pappas, who runs the restaurant with her, were at the show.
A FREEZER POP TO HELP KIDS FEEL BETTER
RACINE, Wis. -- A new novelty ice pop decorated with the image of Blue, the dog of Nickelodeon's "Blues Clues," has a more serious purpose than the average ice pop.
