A&P Shareholders File Suit
s-action suit has been filed in U.S. District Court here on behalf of investors who bought shares between Nov. 15 and May 28 in A&P, Montvale, N.J. As previously reported, on May 28 the company said it would delay the filing of its annual report with the Securities and Exchange Commission while it conducted a review of its accounting for vendor allowances; the company noted at the time that the review could result in its having to restate earnings for previous quarters. The complaint filed last week alleges that A&P and several current and former officers filed "false and misleading" statements about the company's financial performance.
Brookshire to Buy 17 North Texas Winn-Dixie Stores
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores here said late last month it had sold 17 north Texas supermarkets to Brookshire Grocery Co., Tyler, Texas. The terms of the deal, which is expected to close June 21, were not disclosed. Meanwhile, Kroger Co., Cincinnati, said last week it has acquired seven Winn-Dixie stores in the Dallas area.
