DART GROUP CORP., Landover, Md., completed its acquisition of the 50% it did not already own in Shoppers Food Warehouse Corp. for $210 million. Dart said it financed the acquisition through cash and a private placement of $140 million of senior notes. Shoppers operates 34 supermarkets in the greater Washington area. Dart also named Mark A. Flint a director and chief executive officer of Shoppers. Flint is a Dart senior vice president and chief financial officer. The company also named Keith E. Alessi a director of Shoppers. Alessi is currently chairman, president and chief executive of Jackson Hewitt Inc., an electronic tax preparation service.
nk of Maryland will be the new issuer of its co-branded Giant and Super G Visa cards, which give 3% rebates on Giant purchases and 1% rebates on other buys. The card's original issuer, M&T Bank, Buffalo, N.Y., pulled out of the program in October when card usage exceeded expectations. To continue receiving the rebates, existing Giant Visa cardholders will have to reapply for the card beginning Feb. 16.
