its first store with a full-service gas station and convenience store here in November 2002, according to Nicole Townsend, spokeswoman for the West Sacramento, Calif.-based chain. The supermarket, 12-pump fuel center and 2,500-square-foot c-store will be set on the corner of Twin Cities Road and Fermoy Way near Highway 99. "It was a corner location and a good traveling location," Townsend said in a recent interview with SN. While Raley's does not have a rollout plan for more gas stations, she said the company would assess the appropriateness of locating gas stations at future sites. Both Albertson's and Safeway also have recently expanded their gasoline operations in the region.

CITIZENS TO OPEN 41 BANKS WITH GIANT EAGLE

PITTSBURGH -- Giant Eagle here will roll out financial services provided by Citizens Financial Group, Providence, R.I., in 41 in-store locations beginning Dec. 1, a Citizens Bank spokesman told SN last week. The banking company will replace the 41 in-store Mellon Financial branches when Citizens completes the expected acquisition of certain of Mellon's assets this week. Mike Jones, spokesman for Citizens, said the company would offer full in-store banking services, including business banking, mortgages, loans, deposits and new accounts. Citizens "green machine" ATMs will replace Mellon Bank ATMs at all 41 locations. Jones said Citizens anticipates opening in a dozen additional Giant Eagle stores in western Pennsylvania by the end of 2002. "We plan to aggressively site additional stores, both existing Giant Eagle stores and as they are built," he said.
