ALBERTSON'S, Boise, Idaho, said it is moving ahead with its proposed acquisition of Buttrey Food & Drug Stores Co., Great Falls, Mont. Albertson's executives have met with the Federal Trade Commission in Washington and submitted thousands of documents for review, according to Mike Read, a spokesman for the chain. Read said it is likely that the FTC will require Albertson's to divest a few stores to settle antitrust concerns in order to have the merger approved. "We would prefer that number to be very few," he told SN. "We want to operate all of the Buttrey stores." At least one Albertson's store will close due to a lost lease, he said. In addition, he said, there may be one or two Buttrey stores that are too close to an existing Albertson's, and those may be closed.
