PORTLAND, Ore. -- A division of Kroger, Fred Meyer Stores this month launched a new hot deli case "Entree of the Month" program with Harry's Fresh Foods, a small-batch, chef-prepared soup and entree commissary based here. The new line, which has been in development for several months, will be based on seasonality and price point, according to Rod Harris, founder and chief executive officer of Harry's. The entrees retail for $4.99 per pound in the Pacific Northwest and $5.49 per pound at Fred Meyer stores in Alaska. This month's featured dish will be Sweet and Sour Chicken with Rice. The company plans to feature other entrees such as Chicken and Italian Sausage Arrabiata, Meatball Stroganoff and Penne Primavera Rose in upcoming months. Available in all of Fred Meyer's 129 stores, the program will be promoted via in-store signs and point-of-sale materials. The company also has been developing fresh meal "kits" for Fred Meyer and other supermarket chains, where pre-cooked ingredients from Harry's are mixed with 32fresh vegetables, noodles or other ingredients by supermarket deli staff, Harris said.
