NEW YORK -- The Grain Foods Foundation has launched a multimillion-dollar campaign to promote the health benefits of grain products -- particularly bread. Coming on the heels of the release of the updated federal dietary guidelines, the "Bread. It's Essential" campaign's message will promote the idea that bread and grain foods can contribute to longevity, intelligent eating, fitness and energy. Educational materials will be made available to the public through the foundation, stressing grain's overall health value, and seeking to reverse the damage bread took during the low-carb diet craze of the prior year. Health statements made in the materials are based on a review of more than 900 peer-reviewed scientific studies concerning health, disease and nutrition, organizers said.
