SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- A new business alliance between The Perishables Group and ACNielsen will track sales of random-weight product, beginning with fresh produce, according to officials with both firms. Coverage of the dairy, deli, meat/seafood and bakery categories will be added by the end of this year, they said. The service will use point-of-sale scanner data from 30,000 census stores tracked by Nielsen, that will then be interpreted by FreshFacts, a proprietary software developed by PG. The new program will "open the pipeline" to total-store category management, and will provide more sophisticated sales information such as census-level chain data and rest-of-market comparisons, as is already found in Center Store, officials noted.
