IGA said Haggai was cited for the private foundation he heads that provides scholarships to people preparing for careers in education or as executives of non-profit youth agencies.

Union, Retailers Reach Agreement In Seattle

SEATTLE -- The Union of Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1105 here has reached a tentative contract agreement last week with retailers in the Seattle region, including Albertson's, Safeway, Quality Food Centers, Fred Meyer, Haggen, and Top Food and Drug. Deliberations began in October, and the agreement averted the possibility of a May strike, which was the expiration date of the old contract. The main points of contention between the parties were wage increases and benefit and pension improvements. The 12,000 union members will vote on the new contract by mail in the next two weeks.

Canadian Food Brokers Join ASMC International

RESTON, Va. -- The Association of Sales and Marketing Companies here said last week that the Canadian Food Brokers Association has become part of the ASMC International Operating Association. The ASMC will retain the CFBA's Canadian office, and Keith Bray, former CFBA president, will now serve as ASMC International president. The ASMC International will continue to host the CFBA's already scheduled annual conference, taking place June 23 to 26 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Webvan Sued By Amazon.com

SEATTLE -- Amazon.com here has filed a $6.25 million breach of contract lawsuit against Internet grocer Webvan, Foster City, Calif. HomeGrocer, subsequently acquired by Webvan, had signed a $10 million advertising contract with Amazon, according to Amazon. After Webvan acquired HomeGrocer, Amazon said Webvan stopped the agreed-upon $1.25 million quarterly payments. Webvan has said it would not make payments, because Amazon refused to advertise some of Webvan's offerings that compete directly with Amazon's. "We will aggressively defend ourselves and believe we are in the right on this issue," said Bud Grebey, vice president of corporate affairs at Webvan.
