NFI SETS NET FOR OCTOBER CONVENTION

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The annual convention of the National Fisheries Institute here is slated to take place Oct. 26 to 29 in Orlando, Fla.

. Following his address, Dave Jenkins, vice president of National Eating Trends, a consumption tracking service that is part of the NPD Group in Rosemont, Ill., will present the results of a survey on seafood purchasing habits and consumer attitudes.

The second half of the session is slated to bring together a panel of retail and food-service buyers to analyze and interpret consumer research data.

Special-interest committees will meet to examine a variety of issues throughout the convention. Some of the topics to be covered include the Code of Responsible Fishing, the Chilean salmon antidumping case, the Food and Drug Administration equivalency in preparation for Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points, import inspection fees, new bycatch reduction device regulation and the formation of the Global Aquaculture Alliance.

Jay Bornstein, the NFI president, will also moderate a special session on eco-labeling and the Code for Responsible Fishing.
