Pa. -- Sigfried Weis, chairman emeritus of Weis Markets, Sunbury, Pa., died at his home here June 11 after a long illness. He was 79.

From 1961 until this January, Weis was president and chairman of the company that was founded in Sunbury, Pa., by his father Sigmund and his uncle Harry in 1912.

Weis was a member of the National Association of Food Chains and a director of the Supermarket Institute, which merged in 1977 to form the Food Marketing Institute, Washington.

He was honored as chief executive officer of the year in 1981 and 1982 by Financial World magazine.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, three children and six grandchildren.

Joseph W. Riley

WYNNEWOOD, Pa. -- Joseph W. Riley, founder of the food brokerage that still bears his name, died here May 29 following complications from surgery. He was 81.

Riley started the Joseph W. Riley Co., Haverford, Pa., in 1952, and was still involved in the business at the time of his death.

A memorial service was held at the Episcopal Academy, Merion, Pa., on June 2.

Riley is survived by his wife, Dorothy, two sons and seven grandchildren.
