Bernard Green

-- Bernard Green, president of B. Green & Co. here, died April 15 of heart failure at Mount Sinai Hospital here. He was 79.

Green had been president of the company for 50 years. B. Green & Co. was started by his father, Benjamin Green, in 1915. The company wholly owns eight wholesale and retail stores and has an equity interest in Farm Fresh Supermarkets here.

Until B. Green divested its major operations two years ago, it was a regional food distributor with sales of $700 million annually. Nash Finch Co., Minneapolis, bought the company's military distribution business and Richfood, Mechanicsville, Va., bought the civilian distribution business.

Green is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lelia, as well as two sons, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Benjamin Zdatny

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. -- Benjamin Zdatny, 68, a former executive with White Rose Food and Di Giorgio Corp., both in Somerset, N.J., died at his home on April 28. He had long suffered from heart disease.

Zdatny joined White Rose in 1965 and was president from 1974 to 1984. In 1984, he became chairman of White Rose and simultaneously became vice chairman and chief operating officer of the grocery chain's parent company, Di Giorgio Corp. He held those positions until 1989, although he continued to work at Di Giorgio as a consultant until his death.

He was most recently employed by Nova Foods, a management and marketing consultancy in Chicago. He was vice chairman and partner there.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rita, and three children, two brothers and a grandson.
