VANCOUVER, Wash. — Funeral services were held here last week for C. Dale Warman, a longtime executive of Fred Meyer Inc., who died following a lengthy illness at age 77. Warman spent about 45 years with Portland, Ore.-based Fred Meyer, ultimately achieving the titles of executive vice president of the corporation and president of Fred Meyer Foods. He also spent three years in the mid-1970s as executive vice president of Allied Foods, Detroit, before rejoining Fred Meyer. He was a director of Fred Meyer for 15 years and had been a director of Stater Bros. Markets, Colton, Calif., since 1999. Warman began his career at store level, and, according to Jack Crocker, who was president of Fred Meyer at the time, Warman was instrumental in developing a labor scheduling program that was rolled out chainwide. As a result of that work, Crocker said he brought Warman into the corporate office, where he held a variety of positions. “Dale had more determination and enthusiasm than anyone I ever worked with,” Crocker told SN last week. “He set an example for all of us.” Warman is survived by his wife Marilyn, a daughter and two sons.
