Terry Harmon
CITY - Funeral services were held here last week for Terry Harmon, chairman and chief executive officer of Harmons Grocery Stores here. Harmon, 66, died Aug. 24 after battling a variety of illnesses for several years. Harmons operates 11 stores, with a 12th scheduled to open in October. The company said in a press statement the Harmon family intends to continue to operate the business, which was founded by Terry Harmon's parents in 1932. When his father, Jake Harmon, died in 1976, Terry Harmon succeeded him as chairman. Harmon's three children are active in the chain, as are six of his grandchildren. According to son Bob Harmon, "Dad always said we were in the people business - we just happen to sell groceries." Harmon was a past president of the Utah Food Industry Association and a director of the National Grocers Association; he is also a past recipient of NGA's Spirit of America Award. Harmon is survived by his wife, his sister, three children, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
