POINT LOOKOUT, Long Island, N.Y. -- Funeral services were held here last week for John B. Cullen, co-chairman of King Kullen Grocery Co., Bethpage, N.Y. Cullen, son of the company's founder, died Oct. 23 at the age of 83 of complications from diabetes and Parkinson's disease.

He had shared the position of co-chairman with his cousin, Bernard D. Kennedy, since 1999. Despite being confined to a wheelchair during the past couple of years, Cullen continued to come to the office regularly and spearhead board meetings as recently as Oct. 4, the spokesman said.

King Kullen operates 48 supermarkets, all on Long Island except for a single unit on Staten Island, plus two Wild by Nature natural-food stores, with annual sales estimated at around $800 million. Cullen is survived by his wife Doris, two children, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
