LODI, Calif. -- Funeral services were held here this month for Mardee Kidd, chairman of Mar-Val Markets, which is based here. Kidd, 79, died of a heart attack while on a Mexican cruise. He and his brother Val opened the first Mar-Val Market in 1952; he retired in 1986. The five Mar-Val stores, located in the San Joaquin Valley and Central Sierra foothills, are run by his son, Mark Kidd. Mardee Kidd served as chairman of the California Grocers Association in 1983 and was also president of the Northern California Grocers Association. He is survived by his wife Alice, two sons and a daughter, a brother and sister, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
