er, spokesman, Pathmark.

He said the fund-raising walks, which take place at 15 different sites throughout Pathmark's operating area in October, generally draw about 900 to 1,000 participants in total.

"We encourage all of our employees to participate," Savner said.

Eileen Scott, chief executive officer, Pathmark, is planning to walk this year at the Parsippany, N.J., event on Oct. 17.

Pathmark also raises funds for the walks through in-store events and other activities, such as its recent "Sale of Century" event in which it raised $17,000 by offering discounted merchandise from suppliers to its headquarters employees.

According to ACS, about 400,000 people participate in the five-mile, non-competitive walks each year.
