SALISBURY, Md. -- Perdue Farms Inc. here said last week that it has struck an agreement to buy DeLuca Inc., Middlebury, Conn., manufacturer of the Ed & Joan DeLuca branded fresh meal components that have found their way into supermarket meals programs in a number of markets.

by the parties involved.

Officials told SN that DeLuca's current management team, under the direction of its president and chief executive officer, Jeffrey L. Zwicker, would remain in place. Ed DeLuca, founder of DeLuca Inc., would continue to have an active role in the company, officials said.

"It [the agreement] did culminate over the last few days, and it was fitting that we make the announcement at the IDDBA show because we have a booth here and so do they," said Jim Perdue, chairman of the privately held chicken-processing company. "And our customers are here. It's a good way to let them know."
