MINNEAPOLIS -- Pillsbury here voluntarily recalled four Green Giant frozen spinach products after the Food and Drug Administration confirmed that two of the items were contaminated.

d 16-ounce bag Pasta Accents Florentine with cut-leaf spinach. As of June 7, more than two dozen production codes were included in the nationwide recall.

Prompted by a Connecticut consumer who discovered a box of spinach tainted with fly larvae, the FDA tested samples of boxed spinach from the supplying warehouse and confirmed similar contamination June 2. Pillsbury recalled those items that day. As a precaution, the company recalled additional production codes of the boxed spinach and announced a recall of the bagged products June 5.

"We expanded it to include code dates surrounding the production included in the first announcement plus some other products that came from the same bulk spinach source," said Rob Longendyke, Pillsbury director of public relations.

Pillsbury is not disclosing the location of the warehouse that supplied the contaminated spinach and the total number of units involved in the recall. "We have traced it all to a single plant," Longendyke said. He did not know how many stores were supplied by the facility but said the spinach is "in very broad distribution."
