WASHINGTON -- A survey of more than 1,000 households conducted for the National Chicken Association and U.S. Poultry & Egg Association found that consumers preferred chicken over beef and pork in six categories of favorable attributes. They "agreed strongly" that chicken ranked first in terms of preparation options, good taste, simplicity of preparation, health/nutrition, reasonable price and quality consistency. All three meats registered improved ratings compared to the last survey in 1997, except for quality consistency, which slipped 4%. Beef also showed a decline of 2% in the reasonable price column.
