-- Full-volume "fat" hair is in. But this represents a challenge to the estimated 24 million women with fine or thin hair. Pharmacia Consumer Healthcare, maker of the Progaine line of hair care products, is teaming with "stylist-to-the-stars" Gad Cohen, to provide tips for achieving "fat" hair. Part of the program is a "Fat Hair Patrol" made up of hairstyle arbiters who will make appearances at major events in several cities this summer, giving out samples and styling tips. "Wanting a head of full, beautiful, healthy hair is not a new phenomena," said Cohen. "Today, though, we're seeing a renewed interest in the retro-glamorous, 'just-set' full-hair look."

DVD DANCE PARTY

HOLLYWOOD -- The first-time DVD release of six of the biggest dance-oriented musicals will be promoted this fall by Paramount Home Entertainment as part of the its 90th anniversary celebration. The word on the "Grease" DVD is it will street on Sept. 17, and then retailers will catch "Saturday Night Fever" in its 25th anniversary year on Oct. 8. Four other titles, "Flashdance," "Urban Cowboy," "Footloose" and "Staying Alive," will join the party on Oct. 8, as well. "These classic films truly defined a generation, and we are thrilled to release them now on DVD," said Eric Doctorow, president, Paramount Home Entertainment Worldwide. "We have created dynamic transfers that ensure they look more vibrant and sound as good as they did in theaters with new Dolby 5.1 tracks."

HEALTHY FOOD TOOL

EMMAUS, Pa. -- Prevention magazine said it has published the first-ever cover sleeve pocket pullout in magazine history. The July issue features the four-page guide titled, "16 Superfoods That Act Like Medicine." It includes information on how foods can help fight cancer, depression and obesity, among other health problems. "Our goal at Prevention is to help people enjoy healthier lives," said Barb Newton, executive vice president of Rodale's Women's Health Division. "The pullout gives our customers a practical tool they can use as a guide while grocery shopping for healthy foods."

A SWEET RE-LAUNCH

CLEVELAND -- Strawberry Shortcake is back. The classic girl's property is being re-launched by DIC Entertainment, Burbank, Calif., in partnership with American Greetings, here, with an extensive entertainment and licensing program. It will debut in the spring of next year, almost 20 years after the original retail phenomena. However, the character is being redesigned with a new look to better relate to today's children. Direct-to-video/DVD movies are planned, along with a comprehensive licensing and merchandising rollout at retail. This will include a music CD and packaged goods cross promotions. "We believe the time is right to replicate the popularity of Strawberry Shortcake," said Michael Brown, vice president, licensing, American Greetings.
