l Mills Trademark Licensing here recently made an agreement with New York-based You and Me Legwear to create a line of accessories featuring General Mills' characters such as Sonny the Cuckoo Bird and Count Chocula. The icons will appear on backpacks, belts, handbags, slippers and flip-flop sandals, which will be sold in three tiers of distribution: department stores such as Bloomingdales, Parisian and Profitts; mid-tier retailers and chains including Kohl's, Sears, Limited Too, Claire's and JCPenney; and discount stores such as Wal-Mart Stores and Target. The flip-flops appeared in stores in April, and other products, including the backpacks and belts, will be released for back-to-school sales in August. Slippers will be available for the holiday season.

CHARLIE'S CUP CAKES

BURBANK, Calif. -- Warner Bros. will team with Hostess Cup Cakes for a theatrical movie promotion of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton. The movie is based on Roald Dahl's classic book about chocolatier Willy Wonka. Limited edition "Chocolicious Wonka Cakes," featuring movie-themed packaging, purple icing and creamy filling, are now in 30,000 retail locations. The movie will release on July 15. " 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' provides an excellent opportunity to put a fresh twist on our classic Hostess Cup Cakes in connection with a modern interpretation of Roald Dahl's classic tale the whole family will enjoy," said Jacques Roizen, chief marketing officer, Interstate Bakeries Corp., Kansas City, Mo.

'TOY STORY' RETOLD

BURBANK, Calif. -- Disney-Pixar's "Toy Story 10th Anniversary Edition" will be released on DVD by Buena Vista Home Entertainment on Sept. 6, supported by a large promotional program. Media will include TV and online ad spending targeting parents and kids. There also will be a $3-off gift card good on the release included in the "Cinderella Special Edition." "Toy Story" was the No. 1-selling movie of 1995, and the two-disc set will include a number of extras, including a roundtable discussion with key Pixar executives such as Director John Lasseter, a "Making of Toy Story" featurette, deleted scenes, music videos, audio commentaries and early animation tests. With a suggested retail price of $29.99, direct prebook is July 12, while distributor prebook is July 26.
