Pashby added that "merely due to the potential for a postage increase, publishers will start to focus their attention on the [increased] marketing of their products to the supermarket chains." He said he did not believe a future postal hike would result in higher cover prices at checkout.
Distributor Alters Name to TV Guide
NEW YORK -- TV Guide has announced it has changed the name of Murdoch Magazine Distribution Inc. to TV Guide Distribution Inc.
Under its new name, TV Guide Distribution will maintain its reputation as a distribution leader and build upon the many successes it has already achieved, including annual unit sales in excess of 505 million copies, the company stated.
The company distributes six of the Top 10 weekly titles and 11 of the Top 25 mass-market titles. Additionally, of the 50 checkout titles, TV Guide Distribution represents 46% of the total retail dollar sales, and 56% of the total sales volume, the company stated.
Last fall, TV Guide and Gemstar International Group Ltd. announced that they have entered into a definitive merger agreement under which TV Guide Inc. would become a wholly owned subsidiary of Gemstar.
