LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix Super Markets here said sales rose 8.5% to $2.9 billion for the 13-week second quarter ended June 30. Sales for the half rose 9.3% to $6 billion. Same-store sales for the quarter were up approximately 4.3%; the company did not release same-store sales for the year to date. The company said net income rose 8.2% to $88.4 million for the quarter and 8.5% to $207.4 million for the half.
