HOUSTON -- Randalls Food Markets here tied produce to its annual Turkeybucks Thanksgiving promotion program.

In an unusual twist on the promotion, however, the chain offered the opportunity to put those credits toward discounted fresh produce. Cantaloupes, for example, were 59 cents each with a coupon and one Turkeybuck; without the Turkeybuck, the price was 99 cents each.
Other deals included 10 ears of yellow corn for $1 with a Turkeybuck, and six ears for 96 cents without a Turkeybuck. Strawberries were 99 cents for a 1-pound container with a Turkeybuck, and $1.49 without.
Shoppers at Randalls receive one Turkeybuck for every $30 they spend at the checkout. Each Turkeybuck is worth 1 pound of Randalls private-label turkey.
Shoppers are usually able to redeem their Turkeybucks for turkeys about a week and a half before Thanksgiving.
Officials at Randalls could not be reached for comment on the special produce-oriented switch for the promotion.
