'Con Air' to Get 'Blitz' Support

"Con Air" will street Dec. 9, prebooking Nov. 18. Other December titles backed by the program include "Cosi" and "Bounty Hunters," streeting Dec. 16 and prebooking Nov. 25; and "Operation Condor" and "Chasing Amy," streeting Dec. 23 and prebooking Nov. 25. January titles, all prebooking Dec. 23, will be "Temptress Moon" and "Children of the Revolution," streeting Jan. 13; "Nothing to Lose" and "Prophecy II," streeting Jan. 20; and "Brassed Off," streeting Jan. 27.

The PPV window on "Con Air" is yet to be determined, but the windows on the other titles range from 45 to 75 days, with most at 55 days.

Republic Is Exiting Rental Market

LOS ANGELES -- Spelling Entertainment Group has shifted the distribution of rental titles formerly controlled by Republic Entertainment here to Paramount Home Video, marking the exit from the rental business by Republic. Republic is a division of Spelling, and is 75% owned by Viacom, New York, which also owns Paramount.

Under the agreement, Paramount Home Video will pick up the distribution rights to seven upcoming rental titles, including "Night Falls on Manhattan," a title that was distributed theatrically by Paramount Pictures in the United States and Canada.

"The competitive dynamics of the home video rental market have shifted dramatically, favoring large studio distributors," said Robert Sigman, president and chief executive officer of Republic Entertainment.

Paramount Sets 'Face/Off' Release

HOLLYWOOD -- Paramount Home Video here will release "Face/Off" Nov. 11. Starring John Travolta and Nicholas Cage, the title earned $109 million at the box office and $23.4 million in its opening weekend.

Support for "Face/Off" will include a 60 day pay-per-view window and a national radio promotion that will reach 161 markets. Order cut-off date is Oct. 27. Paramount said the title is one of the most highly anticipated video releases of the year, according to intent-to-rent studies by the National Research Group.
