Four Supermarkets Join NACDS
supermarket chains, operating a total of 286 individual pharmacies, have joined the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. They are H-E-B Grocery Co. San Antonio, Texas, with 110 pharmacies; Wakefern Food Corp., Jamesburg, N.J., with 97 pharmacies; Shop 'N Save Food and Drug Superstores, Portland, Maine, with 50 pharmacies, and Smitty's Super Valu, Phoenix, with 29 pharmacies.
Screenings at Stop & Shop
BOSTON -- Stop & Shop Cos. conducted four types of health screenings in its stores during the month of June. Blood pressure and cholesterol screenings were offered June 21 in East Hartford, Conn. A hearing test was available June 21 and 22 in Beverly, Mass. Blood-pressure monitoring was conducted June 21 in Hadley, Mass. A spinal screening was held June 23 and 24 in Branford, Conn.
Abco Hop to Aid Diabetes Fight
PHOENIX -- Abco Markets here is hosting a '50s theme "Be Bop and Hop" dinner and dance to benefit the American Diabetes Association on Aug. 12 at the YWCA Conference Center in Phoenix.
Name Reflects Bigger Neuman
RIDGEFIELD, N.J. -- Neuman Wholesale Drug Co. has changed its name to Neuman Distributors.
The name change was made "to reflect the company's new position as one of the top 10 wholesale distributors of pharmaceuticals," said Samuel Toscano Jr., Neuman's chairman and chief executive officer. Recent acquisitions have boosted sales volume, according to the company. Its market includes states from Maine south to Virginia and west to Michigan.
