RETAILERS HONORED FOR BEEF MERCHANDISING

WOOSTER, Ohio -- Certified Angus Beef presented Sheboygan, Wis.-based Fresh Brands Distributing with the Retail Marketer of the Year Award in recognition of its well-rounded approach to marketing the beef brand at its Piggly Wiggly and Dick's stores.

Farm Fresh Supermarkets, Virginia Beach, Va., received the Retail Advertiser of the Year award for a comprehensive advertising approach that includes store circulars, live radio remotes, radio ads and in-store signs. Roth's Family Market, Salem, Ore., earned the Retail Value-added Products Marketer of the Year award. The Retail Commitment to Integrity Award went to Bozzuto's, the Cheshire, Conn.-based wholesale food distributor.

Other winners included Giant Food, Landover, Md., the recipient of the Top Sales Volume Increase honor. The Top Volume Chain Average Per Store Award was presented to Reasor's, Tahlequah, Okla. Twin City Supermarket, Plainfield, N.J., earned the Top Volume Retail Store award for having the highest CAB sales by pound. The retailer also experienced a sales increase of 13% in CAB brand products over the past year, officials said.

CAB officials also presented the Top Ten Sales Volume Retailer Awards to the following companies, starting with the top retailer, Schnuck Markets, St. Louis. In descending order, the following retailers were recognized:

- Meijer, Grand Rapids, Mich., second place.

- Raley's, West Sacramento, Calif., third place.

- Giant Eagle, Pittsburgh, fourth place.

- Stop & Shop Supermarket Co., Quincy, Mass., fifth place.

- Giant Food, Carlisle, Pa., sixth place.

- K-VA-T Food Stores, Abingdon, Va., seventh place.

- Giant Food, Landover, Md., eighth place.

- Tops Markets, Buffalo, N.Y., ninth place.

- Quality Food Centers, Bellevue, Wash., tenth place.

For the second year in a row, Skokie, Ill.-based Topco Associates earned the Top Sales Volume Cooperative award. TOPCO was recognized for boosting CAB sales by 7% over the past year, officials said.

Based here, CAB sells more than $2.5 billion in beef products annually.
