BOULDER, Colo. -- Retailers in 34 market areas participated with the National Cattlemen's Beef Association in a week-long beef promotion leading up to Super Bowl Sunday. The beef checkoff-funded radio campaign, which involves just one major station and one major supermarket chain in each of the markets, was kicked off nationwide on Monday, Jan. 26. The message, aired several times a day, includes the participating retailer's name in a tag line, and gives away a $50 gift certificate redeemable at that retailer to multiple winners each day. The certificate is "for your big game beef needs." A grand-prize winner chosen from the gift-certificate winners will receive a trip to Hawaii and tickets to Pro Bowl 2005. Supermarket chains from one end of the country to the other are participating in the promotion, said Randy Irion, NCBA's director, retail marketing services. Participating chains include Stop & Shop, Quincy, Mass.; Tidyman's, Greenacres, Wash.; A&P, Montvale, N.J.; Albertsons, Boise, Idaho; Jewel-Osco, a Chicago-based division of Albertsons; multiple divisions of Winn-Dixie, Jacksonville, Fla.; and Giant Food, Landover, Md.
