PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway here said it would slow the expansion of its Safeway Select Bank operations, citing the financial difficulties of its partner in the venture, Amicus Bank, Cicero, Ill., according to reports. Safeway offers the private-label banking services in 167 of its stores.
