SEAWAY SHIFTS FOCUS TO TECHNOLOGY

MAUMEE, Ohio -- Seaway Food Town will shift its focus to a backlog of technology issues that were held up as the company focused on Y2K preparedness, Richard B. Iott, president and chief executive officer, said at the company's annual meeting here. Following a "rather boring" Y2K transition, Seaway will turn its attention to issues including warehouse selection and replenishment systems and self check-outs

MAUMEE, Ohio -- Seaway Food Town will shift its focus to a backlog of technology issues that were held up as the company focused on Y2K preparedness, Richard B. Iott, president and chief executive officer, said at the company's annual meeting here. Following a "rather boring" Y2K transition, Seaway will turn its attention to issues including warehouse selection and replenishment systems and self check-outs in 2000, Iott said. Seaway's staff had worked on the Y2K issue for more than a year.

shareholders ratified the election of Wallace D. Iott and W. Geoffrey Lyden to three-year terms on Seaway's board of directors.

Seaway last week also reported earnings for the fiscal 2000 first quarter. Earnings were up 20.3% from $1.4 million. Sales increased 8.1% from $156.6 million for the fiscal 1999 first quarter. Comparable store sales for the quarter were up 3.6%, Iott added.
