CHICAGO -- Second Harvest, the nation's largest charitable hunger relief organization, said its president, Sister Christine Vladimiroff, will resign July 31 to become prioress of the Benedictine Community in her native Erie, Pa.

Second Harvest chairman, Sister Vladimiroff was instrumental in forging strategic relationships with the food industry, resulting in national distribution of nearly 1 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products last year.

"Christine took on more than just feeding people in need. She gave voice to their condition and helped shatter myths about hunger in America," Nasby said.

"She showed that hunger is more pervasive than most realized, and she showed the solution to hunger is in each of our hands."
