ADDITIONAL NOTES

IGA, the Chicago-based network of independent operators, accounted for 1999 sales of approximately $19 billion at 4,000 stores worldwide, including $14 billion in North America ($9 billion from 1,900 stores in the U.S. and $5 billion [U.S.] from 580 stores in Canada) and $5 billion from 1,520 stores overseas. Virtually all the North American volume is included in the sales numbers for IGA's 11 wholesaler-owners in the U.S. and three in Canada.

Piggly Wiggly Co., Memphis, Tenn., is an umbrella organization for 621 franchised stores in 18 states with a combined 1999 volume of approximately $4 billion. Fleming Cos., Oklahoma City, is the parent company and is also one of several wholesalers that supplies products to the Piggly-Wiggly stores.
