SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Frequent compressor shutdowns stemming from a freezer case retrofit project at Cheese Traders, a one-store independent here, were eliminated when the company tried a new lubricant.

hs the alkylbenzene oil, traveling 20 feet of suction lines to the compressor, was triggering shutdowns at the cases, which contain 6,000 pounds of fish.

Contractors replaced the lubricant with an enhanced mineral oil, designed by Witco Corp., Greenwich, Conn., for systems with long suction lines and the compressor shutdowns were eliminated.
