Peters said Sunkist lemons have traditionally used stamps for identification, rather than stickers, because many Sunkist lemons are purchased by the food-service sector. Food-service companies, which often grind, peel or halve the lemons, consider the stickers to be something of a nuisance, she said.
The stickers, industry watchers say, are a possible way for Sunkist to provide the standardized price look-up codes that are being used more and more in the produce industry to identify varieties.
