INDIANAPOLIS - Supervalu last week opened its first Sunflower Market here. "This has been a dream of a lot of us for several years - opening a value-priced natural and organic market," said Jeff Noddle, chairman and chief executive officer of Supervalu, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. "Natural and organic products are going more mainstream." Housed in a former A&P location, the new 13,000-square-foot store features natural and organic brands exclusively, with a mix of 80% organic produce, hormone- and antibiotic-free meats, natural and organic baked goods, prepared foods and coffee, organic dairy foods, cage-free eggs and a comprehensive assortment of natural and organic supplements, health and beauty care items, cleaners, baby care products and packaged foods. Supervalu appeared to be making good on its promise of aggressive value pricing throughout the store during the grand opening. Organic bananas were 49 cents per pound, a pound of organic butter and a half gallon of organic milk were $4.75 and $3.25, respectively.
