EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Supervalu has appointed Gary Gionnette vice president of produce, responsible for wholesale produce merchandising and related department initiatives. Gionnette rejoined Supervalu a year ago and until now had been conducting a comprehensive review of the wholesaler/retailer's produce operations. Earlier in his career, he was a regional category manager for Supervalu before leaving to join Driscoll Strawberry Associates in 1998. There, he was president and chief executive officer. In his new position at Supervalu, Gionnette reports to Leland Drake and Dave Boehnen, vice president and executive vice president, respectively, of wholesale merchandising. According to company officials, Mike Kemp will retain the title and responsibilities as director of produce, reporting directly to Gionnette.
