Taking the Plunge Universal Studios Home Video, Universal City, Calif., became the latest studio to jump on the digital videodisc bandwagon during the Video Software Dealers Association convention. "We plan on exposing as many of our titles as we possibly can on DVD," said Louis Feola, president.

"We will have a consistent flow of product from that point forward," said Feola. "We feel that our announcement here at VSDA is truly critical to the success of DVD."

Supermarkets will likely ease into DVD sales, Andrew Kairey, executive vice president at Universal, told SN following a press conference at the VSDA show. "When you look at the broad-based distribution and rollout of DVD, you have to put the product where the consumers are going to be shopping. For supermarkets, it's a business for all of them in the future, but initially, I think all retailers are going to address that market very cautiously," he said.
