am shells and individual desserts. On the first of three tiered shelves were sub sandwiches for $2.99 and $3.99. On the next shelf up were three types of Caesar salad: plain, $2.99; with smoked turkey, $3.99; with grilled chicken, $4.99. On the top tier were a brand of individual cheese cakes and single servings of chocolate pudding and tapioca pudding that looked store-packed.

That self-service section was situated between a hot service counter and a chilled service counter.

In the chilled service case, meat loaf was $4.99 a pound; grilled chicken cutlets were $2.99 each. Salads in long trays in that case had product cards that said, "Made in Store." Most were $3.99 a pound. They included Shanghai noodle salad, Oriental green beans, Caribbean bean salad, and tomato and mozzarella salad. The macaroni salad, at $1.99 a pound, also had a "Made in Store" sign.

The chain's E-Z Meals test program was not in evidence in the deli. Behind the chilled counter, a small prep area was visible.
