MADISON, Wis. -- The International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association here announced the winners of the first Cake Decorating Challenge, part of ShowPlace '96.

In addition to their trophies, the winners received decorating bags and tips.

The three phases of the contest included decorating and merchandising a full display case, then decorating a three-tiered wedding cake and, finally, decorating a cake in each of the following three categories: special occasion, theme/event and "decorator's choice."

Judges for the contest were Sue Walker, technical consultant for Rich Products; Gilles Renusson, chairman of the U.S. World Pastry Cup Team and advanced pastry chef-instructor at Grand Rapids Community College, and Marilyn Lawson, district sales manager for Maplehurst.
