BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Tops Markets here recently promoted foreign-language greeting cards at its three 100,000-square-foot International Super Centers here and in the Rochester area. Newspaper ads heralded the foreign-language section of the chain's card departments with copy that stated "no matter what you want to say -- or the language you want to say it in -- you're sure to find the cards to fit the occasion at Tops International Super Center." A store source at the Greece, N.Y., International Super Center, who asked to remain anonymous, explained the foreign-language cards "are doing especially well in culturally diverse [locales] including the Rochester area." The source said that in these regions, demand for cards printed in Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Hebrew, Polish and Chinese continues to grow. Tops' newspaper ad noted that the International stores included those seven languages in their card assortments.
