LOS GATOS, Calif. -- Two Internet merchants, NetFlix.com, based here, and Beyond.com, Santa Clara, Calif., signed an end-of-year pact whereby NetFlix provided DVD rentals to Beyond's customers in December. For any purchase made at Beyond through Dec. 31, customers received 10 free DVD rentals at NetFlix, valued at $40.

With their Beyond purchase, customers received a confirmation E-mail guiding them to the exclusive offer on the NetFlix site, and an access code to obtain the free DVD rentals.
Hollywood Video, Independents Team
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Hollywood Video has entered into an exclusive deal with two independent film companies, Tribe of Australia and The Asylum of Los Angeles, for a monthly program it will call, "First Rites."
The program will begin in January 2000 with the launch of 10 films that will be distributed at first only in Hollywood Video Stores. These will be followed by six films per month and supported by in-store promotional materials, dedicated space in the stores' new release walls, in-store broadcasts, and the company's publication and Web site.
Among the January titles in the program are "Fashionably L.A.," "Green," "Criminal," "Chicks, Man," "Anarchy TV" and "Mr. Vincent."
