At NetFlix, Mitch Lowe, vice president of business development, said, "Beyond.com customers already know the advantages of shopping on-line and we are pleased to provide them access to one of the largest libraries of DVD movies available." With their Beyond purchase, customers received a confirmation E-mail guiding them to the exclusive offer on the NetFlix site, and an access code to obtain the free DVD rentals.

Hollywood Video, Independents Team

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Hollywood Video has entered into an exclusive deal with two independent film companies, Tribe of Australia and The Asylum of Los Angeles, for a monthly program it will call, "First Rites."

The program will begin in January 2000 with the launch of 10 films that will be distributed at first only in Hollywood Video Stores. These will be followed by six films per month and supported by in-store promotional materials, dedicated space in the stores' new release walls, in-store broadcasts, and the company's publication and Web site.

Among the January titles in the program are "Fashionably L.A.," "Green," "Criminal," "Chicks, Man," "Anarchy TV" and "Mr. Vincent."
