ion and 28.1% to $31 million for the 39-week period.

Sales fell 0.8% to $715.4 million for the quarter and 5.2% to $2.14 billion for the year to date, which the company said was due in part to the loss of a large dairy customer when Ross Swiss was acquired by Dean Foods, a self-distributing company, in 2004. It said the decrease was partially offset by the opening of new stores by existing members.
