VSDA ANNOUNCES NOMINEES FOR ENTERTAINMENT AWARDS

ENCINO, Calif. -- Nominations for Video Software Dealers Association's 2001 Home Entertainment Awards, covering videos released between April 1 and Nov. 30 of this year, were announced Dec. 4 by Bo Andersen, the association's president.by a nine-member committee of retailers, distributors and trade journalists. by a nine-member committee of retailers, distributors and trade journalists. Among the major nominees are the following:

For Rental Title of the Year by a Major Studio, the nominees are "American Beauty," "Gladiator," "The Green Mile," "Mission: Impossible 2" and "The Patriot."

For Rental Title of the Year by an Independent Studio, the nominees are "Being John Malkovich," "Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai," "Held Up," "The Ninth Gate" and "Topsy Turvy."

For Sell-Through Title of the Year by a Major Studio, the nominees are "Chicken Run," "Erin Brockovich," "The Perfect Storm," "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace" and "X-Men."

Direct-to-Video by a Major Studio nominees are "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins," "Joseph: King of Dreams," "Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea," "Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders" and "Switching Goals."

DVD of the Year nominees are "American Beauty," "Gladiator," "Mission: Impossible 2," "The Patriot" and "The World Is Not Enough."

Special Edition DVD of the Year nominees are "Braveheart," "Fight Club," "Gladiator," "Magnolia" and "Terminator 2 -- The Ultimate Edition DVD."

Independent studios in the various categories have also been nominated for awards.
