WAL-MART LEADS SPEAKER LIST AT RETAIL SYSTEMS 2004 SHOW

CHICAGO -- Mike Duke, president and chief executive officer of Wal-Mart Stores' U.S. division will be among the food-retailing and consumer packaged goods speakers at the Retail Systems 2004/VICS Collaborative Commerce show here next month.The event, a major retail technology conference and trade show covering all channels of retail, will be held May 17 to 19 at McCormick Place, Lakeside Center here.

CHICAGO -- Mike Duke, president and chief executive officer of Wal-Mart Stores' U.S. division will be among the food-retailing and consumer packaged goods speakers at the Retail Systems 2004/VICS Collaborative Commerce show here next month.

The event, a major retail technology conference and trade show covering all channels of retail, will be held May 17 to 19 at McCormick Place, Lakeside Center here. About 10% of attendees are food retailers, and 16% are from CPG manufacturers. Last year's attendance was 3,944.

In an opening keynote, Duke will discuss Wal-Mart's decision to integrate EPC (Electronic Product Code) and RFID (radio frequency identification) technology into the company's supply chain practices. Wal-Mart has set a January deadline for its top 100 suppliers to apply RFID tags to pallets and cases.

Other keynote speakers include Miguel-Angel Lopera, CEO, EAN International and the Uniform Code Council, and Randy Darcy, senior vice president, chief technical officer, General Mills. Curt Avallone, senior vice president, marketing and strategy, A&P, and Jim Flannery, director, global customer development, P&G, will participate in a "strategic integration summit" panel discussion.

Also at the show, a Retail RFID Technology Symposium will include a "Retail Adoption Debate" with Simon Langford, manager, global RFID strategy, Wal-Mart, and James Stafford, head of RFID, Marks & Spencer. The symposium will also feature a "Supplier Issues Debate" with Don Mowery of Nestle Purina and Milan Turk of P&G. In addition, roundtables will be held covering RFID and data synchronization.

Other food industry-related sessions include: "Synchronize Promotional Activities with Demand," presented by George Jackman, director, customer marketing, Welch's; "Incorporate CPFR Forecasts with Business Processes," by Patricia jackson, COE process consultant, SC Johnson; and "Improve Overall Supply Chain Performance with Innovative Business Processes," by Edward Hancock, director, business operations, Eastman Kodak.
